Bria Overs is a business reporter at The Baltimore Banner.
Bria was recently selected for the 2024 Covering Equitable Community Development Fellowship with the National Press Foundation.
But, prior to joining The Banner, she was a finance reporter at Word In Black and a 2023-2024 Poynter-Koch Media Journalism Fellow. Her work covered personal finance, financial literacy, small businesses, the economy, and the Black community. Shortly after starting at WIB in early 2023, she received the #SABEW23 Sho Fellowship from the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing.
Bria was a Special Projects Editor at Business Insider for over three years, creating and managing numerous editorial projects. Project topics covered personal finance, technology, small businesses, leadership, and sustainability. She joined the company as a Special Projects fellow in 2019 and became Editor in 2021.
In her first professional journalism job, she covered Compton, California, as a Los Angeles Wave Newspapers contributing writer.
Bria was Editor-in-Chief of The Bulletin, the college newspaper, while pursuing a bachelor’s degree at California State University, Dominguez Hills. She won the department’s Oustanding Journalism Senior Award for the 2017-2018 academic year. After graduating, the paper won several California College Media Association awards.
She has published work in and at Word In Black, Business Insider, Insider, Rewire.org, the Beachcomber, and ENTITY Mag.
